This week we finished reading the story “The Lion and the Mouse” and talked about what causes us to change the way we feel. We reviewed the letter Hh and discussed the Main Idea of a story. Next week, we will be reading the story “Rooster’s Off to See the World” and we will be discussing the sequence of a story.

In Math, we began Topic 5: Numbers to 20. We learned how to read, write, and count numbers 11-20. Next week, we will continue to work with and be tested on numbers to 20 and we will begin our new Topic on numbers to 100.

In Science, we discussed gases and the ways in which water can change. Next week we will begin our Unit on Life Science and we will discuss living and nonliving things.

REMINDERS:
-January Book Logs will be due on Tuesday, January 31st. The monthly goal is to read at least 15 books! Thank you to all who participate!!
-Wednesday, February 1st will be the 100th Day of School. Please refer to the note sent home this week about dress attire.
-Friday, February 3rd will be the Kindergarten Luau, the monthly reward for January – please dress accordingly! **Information was sent home earlier this week.
-NSE Valentine Parties will be held on Friday, February 10th beginning at 1:30. Anyone interested in coming in to celebrate, please feel free to contact me!
-Things to practice at home: counting to 100, writing numbers to 20, comparing numbers & quantities, breaking words down into sounds, blending sounds into words, rhyming, and counting syllables.

This week we finished reading the story “Then and Now” and talked about how things we use today are different from things we use long ago. We reviewed the letter Oo and learned how to draw conclusions. Next week, we will be reading the story “The Lion and the Mouse” and learning about what causes us to feel the way we feel.

In Math, we were tested on comparing and ordering numbers 1-10. Next week, we will begin our topic on numbers to 20.

Today, we did a lot of fun activities for Inauguration Day. We discussed the history of the inauguration, the job of the President, and who Donald Trump is. We also discussed what we would do if we were the POTUS. Students had a great time watching the live stream of Trump becoming our 45th President.

REMINDERS:
-Please continue to have your child study their sight words on a nightly basis. We did not have a chance to test them this week, but next week I will begin testing again.
-Things to practice at home: counting to 100, writing numbers to 20, comparing numbers & quantities, breaking words down into sounds, blending sounds into words, rhyming, and counting syllables.

This week we finished reading the story “Farfallina and Marcel” and talked about what happens when animals change. We reviewed the letter Ff and discussed plot.  We also talked about the life cycle of a butterfly. Next week, we will be reading the story “Then and Now” and learning about how things we use today are different from things we used long ago.


In Math, we continued working on comparing and ordering numbers 0-10. Next week, we will be tested on Topic 4 and we will begin Topic 5: Numbers to 20.

In Science, we continued our discussion on solids, liquids, and gases and talked about the different stages of the water cycle.



  • There is no school on Monday, January 16th for students!


  • Tuesday, January 17th will be day 5 and we will have Gym.


  • All book orders are due on Tuesday.

This week we read the story “George Washington Visits” and talked about how life was different hundreds of years ago. We reviewed the letter Dd and presented our Dinosaur Projects to the class! Everyone did an excellent job – thank you for putting in the time to make them worthwhile!

In Math, we continued our topic on comparing and ordering numbers 0-10. We practiced showing one more, one fewer, two more, and two fewer, and discussed numbers that were greater and less. Next week, we will finish up and be tested on Topic 4: Comparing and Ordering numbers 0-10.

In Science, we began our Chapter on Matter and Mixtures and began discussing solids. Next week, we will discuss liquids and gases.

REMINDERS:
·January books logs were sent home this week. The goal is to read 15 books or more by January 31st. **Thank you to all of those who reached their December goal. Keep up the great work!
·There will be a 2-hour data delay on Wednesday, January 11th. Please plan accordingly.
·There will be no school for students on Monday, January 16th.
·January book orders will be due on Tuesday, January 17th. Please disregard the date (1/16) on the flyers sent home. Thank you!

I hope you all had a wonderful, relaxing Christmas break. Thank you for all of the thoughtful gifts.. they mean so much to me!

Today we will be starting Dinosaur presentations. Thank you to all who have completed them. They look awesome! Sight word testing will resume this week, please continue to practice the lists at home with your child.

We will have Gym on Friday -- please dress accordingly.
