This week in Reading, we read the story “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” and talked about adventures that can cause trouble. We learned about the letter Gg and discussed characters. We also read several other versions of “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” and compared and contrasted each one to find our favorite!

Next week, we will be reading the story “If You Could Go to Antarctica” and learning about Antarctic adventures. We will be learning the letter Ee and practicing classifying and categorizing. We will be learning three new words: from, go, here.

In Math, we started our topic on Subtraction.

Next week, we will continue our topic on Subtraction and begin working with the minus sign and finding differences.

  • Please continue to read at home with your child & fill out the March Log in your child’s folder. *If he/she reads 10 or more books, they will receive a small prize in our classroom. If he/she reads 16 books, they will be entered in a school wide drawing to win a bicycle at the end of the year. Thank you.

Thank you. **Shirts must have a collar, except on gym days (Spartan tee-shirts are acceptable).

Kindergarten is ready for Spring -- bring on the sunshine and warm weather!

Due to last week's cancellations, we will continue reading the story "One Little Mouse" and learning about adventures that animals can have. We will continue working with Ll blends & words that contain Ll blends: bl (blue), gl (glob), sl (slip), pl (plot), fl (flat), and kl (clap). We will also be practicing our 5 new words: one, two, three, four, and five.

In Math, we will continue working with addition and learning how to write a number sentence using the addition and equal signs.

Today is Day 4 and we have ART.

Last week was an exciting week in Kindergarten! On Wednesday, we participated in a school-wide program called Brainshow Mania. We had a great time showing off our smarts by answering questions in a fun, game-show manner. On Thursday, we were invited to see a play by Mrs. Laudeman’s third grade class. We were a great audience and even got to take home a souvenir: an animal mask made by our third grade friends!! On Friday, we participated in Read Across America. Students from Bloomsburg University came into our classroom and read us a Dr. Seuss book & taught us about the importance of reading.

Last week in Reading, we read the story “My Lucky Day” and talked about lucky adventures. Our letter of the week was Ll and we worked with the words are, that, and do. We also learned about cause and effect: things that happen and the things that cause them to happen.

This week, we will be reading the story “One Little Mouse” and learning about adventures that animals can have. This week in Reading, we read the story “Rooster’s Off to See the World” and talked about adventures. We discussed trips, journeys, being homesick, and what we can learn from going on an adventure. Our letter of the week was Hh and we learned three new words: are, that, do. We also practiced putting things in order!

Next week, we will be reading the story “My Lucky Day” and learning about lucky adventures. Our letter of the week will be Ll and we will be discussing cause and effect.

In Math, we were tested on numbers to 100 and introduced counting by 2’s and 10’s. Please help by practicing this at home, it is a tricky concept for this age group.

Next week, we will introduce addition.

This week in Science, we finished up our chapter on “Objects.” We practiced sorting and grouping objects based on their characteristics.

Next week, we will be tested on “Objects” and begin our new chapter on “Matters and Mixtures.”

This week we did lots of fun activities to celebrate Valentine’s Day. We wrote about who and what we love and told our classmates things that we love about them. We read books about our feelings and discussed what it feels like to be loved. We also enjoyed our party eating treats, giving out Valentine’s, and playing games!

Next week, we will be reading the story “Rooster’s Off to See the World” and learning about adventures. We will be working with the letter Hh and focusing on the sequence of a story. We will also be learning 3 new words: are, do, that.

In Math, we will finish up our topic on counting to 100.

In Science, we will continue our unit on “Objects” and discuss how to sort and use objects.

Tuesday, February 17th, will be day 4 and we will have ART.

This week we did lots of fun activities to celebrate the 100th day of school. We wrote about what we would do if we had $100, we thought about what we’d look like if we were 100 years old, we practiced counting to 100, and we counted how many times we could do certain tasks in 100 seconds. We also read a couple books about the 100th day of school!
 
Next week, we will be reading the story “The Lion and the Mouse” and learning about what causes us to feel the way we feel. We will continue working with the letter Oo and focusing on the main idea of a story.
 
In Math, we will continue our topic on counting to 100.
 
In Science, we will continue our unit on “Objects” and discuss how to sort and use objects.

REMINDERS:
  • Wednesday, February 11th will be Jump Rope for Heart.
  • Thursday, February 12th will be our Valentine’s Day Party. Students are encouraged to bring in Valentine’s for their friends please make sure that there is one for each child! Attached you will find a class list.
  • Friday, February 13th there will be no school for students!!

Hope everyone enjoyed the long, snowy weekend!

Due to the weather, we will continue to read the story "Then and Now" this week, and discuss how things we use today are different from things we used long ago. We will keep working with the letter Oo and work on drawing conclusions. Additionally, we will be doing some fun activities to get ready for Valentine's Day.

In Math, we will start our topic on counting to 100 -- just in time for the 100th day of school.

In Science, we will continue our unit on “Objects” and grouping objects based on their composition and characteristics.


REMINDERS:
  • Report Cards will be sent home today!!
  • Friday, February 6th will be JEANS DAY for students. Please donate $1 if your child intends on participating.
  • Due to the weather, we will no longer be celebrating the 100th day of school on Wednesday. We will be sending home more information when the date is set.
  • Jumprope for Heart will be held on Wednesday, February 11th.
